How to Pronounce Analysis and Analyse

In this video, you will learn the pronunciation of analysis and analyse, the sounds in each syllable, and how to use these two words in a sentence. Yes! The pronunciation of English vowels and word stress can be a challenge.

Hi, my name's Melanie Hussell and today's word of the week is analysis often pronounced as the verb analyse. Let's look at both of these words and compare the two let's start with the verb, analyse. How many syllables an - a - lyse. Yes. Three syllables. Now let's look at the sounds in those syllables first syllable.
Ah, short vowel, nnn, an. Second syllable uh weak, unstressed vowel. Let's look at the final syllable. (Lyse) La, eye, long vowel, zzz, lyse. Let's put the sounds together. Analyse. Analyse. Where the stress in this word analyse. Yes, it's right at the beginning.
Now let's have a look at the noun analysis. How many syllables a - nal - y - sis? Four syllables. Now let's look at the sounds in those syllables. First syllable, ah, weak unstressed, vowel. Second syllable, n - a - short vowel, oo? Nal-. Now let's look at the third syllable. Uh weak unstressed vowel again. Now let's look at the fourth syllable, sss, i short vowel sis. Now let's put them together uh - nal - nuh - sis, faster analysis. Where is the stress in this word? Uh - nal - nuh - sis. Yes, it's on the second syllable, analysis. Now let's put these two words together into two sample sentences.
