Sharing insights with my colleagues on "What makes a good public speaker?"
/During my workshop on Powerful Communication using Voice and Body, I drew inspiration from the enlightening talks delivered by two distinguished speakers, Mike Hogan, a renowned expert in leadership communication and development, and Konstantin Lucas Mikaberidze, a Business English trainer and an excellent first time public speaker from Pole Universitaire Léonard de Vinci, Paris. The objective of my workshop was not only to enhance the public speaking skills of our clients but also to benefit us as Business English teachers and trainers.
This event was attended by approximately 50 professors, owners of Business English schools, and practitioners from around the world. My goal was to share valuable insights and practical exercises related to the question of "What makes a good public speaker?"
In the first submodule, I delved into the importance of tonality, exploring the emotions that underlie one's voice. The second submodule focused on gestures, a critical component of body language in speech. Both of these aspects are crucial when delivering online or hybrid public speeches, especially when communicating with an international audience, as they help in engaging and inspiring the audience.
Throughout the workshop, we engaged in two vocal coaching exercises and two body language exercises, resulting in a dynamic and lively atmosphere characterised by laughter and collaboration.
Towards the end of the session, I issued a call to action for fellow business English teachers to openly collaborate and promote each other's services. I highlighted individuals like Katrin Lichterfeld from Germany, a leadership coach; Ben Dobbs, an expert in conflict management and negotiation; Mike Hogan, as above, who specialises in leadership communication and development; and Ami Salk from Paris, known for her expertise in written communication, particularly in the banking and insurance industries.
I am grateful for the wonderful LinkedIn posts that my generous colleagues, Catherine Aygen of Aygen Training in Grasse, France, and Kath Robinson from Berlin, shared about my workshop. Their support is greatly appreciated.
Looking ahead, I am excited about the prospects of effective communication and collaboration, and I eagerly anticipate next year's conference. The location of the upcoming conference remains a delightful mystery that leaves me wondering where it will be held!
